Yazeed Kamaldien is a photo-journalist who captures the lives of people all over the world with dignity and interviews them with great insight.

iNCUDISA is hosting a seminar to showcase the photographs taken by Yazeed. He will also discuss some of the content of his interviews and what it was like to be in Gaza at the beginning of 2009.

CPT: MSA UCT Fundraising Tea for Gaza

On Sunday 17 May 2009, UCT MSA is having a Fundraising Tea for ladies in aid of raising funds for Gaza.
The objective is to raise a minimum of R10,000 for medical equipment and supplies.

JHB: New Airport Jamaat Khana

In collaboration with Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) the Jamiatul Ulama has been successful in securing an area in the New International Arrivals Terminal of OR Tambo airport for a Muslim prayer facility. Plans for it have been approved and work on the internal design and layout will commence soon. The facility includes a Salaah area for approximately 70 males and 30 females, an ablution area, a luggage storage space and a baby changing and feeding area.

CPT: Launch of MPN Cape Town

Friday 1 May, sees the launch of the Cape Town chapter of MPN. MPN will now have an established presence in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and a close association with AMAL (Association of Muslim Lawyers and Accountants) in Durban.

During April, an interface was also initiated with IMASE (International Muslim Association of Scientists and Engineers), based in the UK. Further detail on IMASE can be found at www.imase.org.uk.

JHB: Events to launch a cultural boycott of Apartheid Israel

Concert on 9 May at the Lenasia Gandhi Hall at 7.30 pm, and 16 May at the House of Nsako, in Brixton at 5.pm. These are charity event and proceeds will be used to build and strengthen the cultural boycott of Israel campaign in South Africa.

In 2005, over 150 Palestinian civil society organizations called for a Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions” (BDS) campaign against Israel.  This campaign has successfully taken root all around the world and continues to grow rapidly. The Palestine Solidarity Committee in SA is currently mobilising communities to support the BDS campaign.  Under this broad umbrella, Cosatu together with civil society organisation have launched a campaign to boycott goods and services from Apartheid Israel. Wits PSC, students and universities are engaged in a debate about the launch of a campaign against any educational and academic engagement with the Apartheid Israeli state.

The PSC has already engaged South African artists and cultural workers who support this campaign and are currently planning a series of events to launch a Cultural boycott of Apartheid Israel: 

1.    An album called “Amandla Intifada” was released in February 2009

 2.    A music concert is to be held on  9 May at the Lenasia Gandhi Hall at 7.30 pm.

 3.    A music concert is to be held on 16 May at the House of Nsako, in Brixton at 5.pm
